For me a wedding is a once in a lifetime event that should be photographed quietly, sympathetically and without the photographer dictating what happens in front of him. My approach is not to direct or interfere in the day, but to be as unobtrusive as possible, to capture honest and truthful images that can be enjoyed for generations to come. Formal pictures are usually kept to a minimum to ensure you enjoy one of the most important days of your lives, and usually last no longer than half an hour.
