Wet Weddings in Wales
Don’t let the rain spoil your day
When it comes to a wedding you can never guarantee the weather. So when choosing your venue have a think about what if it rains. Most venues have rooms or grand staircases where you and your photographer can capture some artistic portraits of the bride and groom but what happens when comes to the wedding party. Yes your wedding venue has a lovely room to hold your wedding breakfast but what about space to allow for group photos.
When it comes to a wedding you can never guarantee the weather. So when choosing your venue have a think about what if it rains. Most venues have rooms or grand staircases where you and your photographer can capture some artistic portraits of the bride and groom but what happens when comes to the wedding party. Yes your wedding venue has a lovely room to hold your wedding breakfast but what about space to allow for those family photos. When thinking about your venue check out what other rooms are available to use for photography if it does rain, check out if the rooms have a lot of natural light as this can help the photographer create flattering portraits, check how many people the rooms hold.
If it does rain don’t let it spoil your day. For a photographer an overcast day produces some of the most flattering portraits instead of a sunny day where the sun can cast strong shadows. When it comes to the day all you should be thinking about is getting married and not what is going to happen with the photos if it rains.
Let your photographer worry about that. Most photographers will carry wet weather gear to protect themselves and their cameras so it doesn’t stop them capturing your guests and yourselves arriving at the church. I have captured some fantastic moments when raindrops are running down the window of a car, brides are transported to the church under white umbrellas.
Have some fun!
Because its raining it doesn’t mean your photographer can’t capture those special moments in the grounds of your venue. Why not pack some wellies and umbrellas in the boot of your car and when the photographer is ready slip your boots on under your dress and these will never be in the photo and grab your umbrella and take a walk. Your photographer can capture some nice photos whilst you are walking and talk you to areas in the venue grounds where you will be dry e.g. Under trees, arches, doorways etc. If your brave why not get yourself and your braidmaids dancing in the puddles and let your photographer capture those fun moments.
OK your thinking you might get dirt on your dress, most of the time the underneath of your dress might get a little wet and any dirt that shows up on your dress in the photos can always be airbushed out afterwards.
The main thing is to have fun on your day. When choosing your photographer check if they have a particular style of photography. Some photographers prefer to have set poses where some just like to capture the moment. There are lots of photography including reportage, formal, contemporary. Make sure when looking at choosing your photographer that their style of photography matches your personality. Also one of the most important things is do you like your photographer. Do you think you will get on with them on the day? Are they flexible when it comes to setting up and taking photos? And most important do you think you will have fun with them on the day. If you don’t gel with your photographer then they will never be able to capture those fun, personal and special moments.
So to recap, when it comes to choosing your venue check:
- The venue has other rooms that the photographer can use to take photos of the guests if it rains.
- Are the rooms dark or have they nice natural window light.
- Has the venue interesting features that can be used in the photos.
Also if it rains:
- Pack some wellington boots and umbrellas to use in the photos. White umbrellas are better.
- Don’t let the weather spoil your day
- Have fun with your photographer.
